Eden Valley
Riesling -
2006 |
|
|
 |
We are great believers in a
fuller bodied style of Riesling. The aim is to balance ripe
fruit with the wonderful natural acidity that makes Eden
Valley so attractive.
Riesling winemaking is very much a wham bam thankyou mam
business, the opportunity for winemaking influence is
minimal. This is probably why I like it so much, fruit
quality is all.
Typical lime and lemon notes
with some nice talcy minerally characters to fill out the mid
palate with Eden Valley's trademark clean finish. Delicious
with oysters, yabbies or gilled whiting.

Barossa
Riesling - 2006 |
|
|
 |
The 05 of this wine has proved to be
popular through the cellar door. I think that when people get
to taste it they realise that this often maligned style has a
lot to offer. So much of this
wine is about mouth-feel, the balance between the fuller
riesling characters and the rounding sensation of the residual
sugar.
Our own revelatory moment occurred on
the beach on Fitzroy Island, North Queensland, hot humid day
with storms brewing, salt sticky fingers, prawns and Barossa
Riesling served icy cold.

Barossa
Cabernet Grenache Rose - 2006 |
|
|
 |
I've thrown the book at this
one. 10% carbonic maceration + 12 hours cold soak for the
Eden Valley Cabernet.
Old Barossa Valley fruit from a wild yeast ferment adds flesh
to the Cabernet bones. The majority of the blend was stopped
with some residual sugar but a portion was run off to oak and
allowed to ferment dry.
The sweeter one is bottled
with a black cap and the dry one with a white cap. Serve
chilled with a salad of prosciutto, figs, goats cheese and
basil.

Barossa Grenache
Shiraz Mataro - 2006 |
|
|
 |
Made from fruit sourced from the Vine Vale
subregion of the Barossa Valley.
This traditional blend is well suited to
our style of winemaking, silky textured grenache is given
structure from shiraz while mataro adds aromatics and
mouthfeel out of all proportion to the percentage in the
blend.
GSM blends are versatile performers in the
food matching stakes making them a good choice if you are
invited to dinner.

Alc. 15 %

Barossa Red
Blend - 2005 |
| |
|
 |
This will be
the last of the Bordeaux style blends for the moment as the
fruit are no longer available to us. I will miss them in the
mix and they may return given the opportunity to source
similar fruit. Blending is the
high point of red winemaking, when it works the sum is worth
more than the parts.
Beautiful red fruits amongst a
structure of soft tannins, the kick in the tail lets you know
it will age with grace and fortitude.
Food wise, ratatouille or any hearty
winter stew.

Eden Valley
Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon - 2005 |
| |
|
 |
Having
played around with this blend in previous years, at 2/3
Shiraz, 1/3 Cab, I feel we are getting close.
Our Eden Valley wines are really hitting
their straps and 05 was a very kind season there as well. The
usual wild yeast, spontaneous MLF regime applied. This wine
has the sort of black fruits with brambly forest smells I'm
looking for with good structure and lovely soft tannins.
Food wise, thinking here the way
Maggie Beer does it. Hope you like it, I do.

Eden Valley
Cabernet Sauvignon - 2005 |
| |
|
 |
This sort of
wine makes me wonder why Cabernet is on the nose at the
moment. My inspiration when we planted this vineyard was the
Tollana TR222 we used to get at staff price and decadently
drink as the house red. This
year, the berries were so small and the skins so thick that
when I got in to mix it with my feet it was like walking
through the thick porridge my father used to make. It really
shows in the colour and intensity of this wine.
Typical Cabernet characters from a
region that this variety has an affinity for. It'll go well
with one of our fat lambs spit roasted.

Barossa Grenache -
2006 |
| |
|
 |
Made from fruit sourced from the Vine Vale
subregion of the Barossa Valley.
This wine reflects the characters of the
Solodized Solodnetz soil series in which it was grown. An
elegant, spicy nose with developed, ripe, juniper berry
characters and firm grainy tannins in the mouth. Very much a
food orientated style, maturation in seasoned oak has
integrated flavours without overpowering them.
We love it with Osso Bucco and celeriac
mash.
